Mary Winchester
– Visual Storyteller
I craft immersive visual narratives that explore the delicate balance between life, death, and time. Concepts that have shaped my artistic identity from the very beginning.
Moving between darkness and light, my work blends gothic, romantic, and dark academia aesthetics. I combine storytelling, photography (Past), filmography (Present), and digital photocollages (Future) to create striking imagery that stays with viewers long after they’ve seen it. Each piece opens a window into a world where fleeting moments reflect something timeless.
My artistic journey is deeply personal, a reflection of my fascination with contrasts: light and shadow, above and below, presence and absence. My logo, an M (Mary) over a W (Winchester), reflects this balance. The M stands for Above (Life), the W for Below (Death), connected like the steady rhythm of a heartbeat. Red, the thread that ties them together, represents the force that moves us all.
Inspired by dark academia, my creations are filled with the weight of old books and the quiet stillness of museums, where forgotten stories wait to be remembered. After losing loved ones at a young age, I became drawn to themes of memory and mortality, searching for meaning through each frame and composition.
Growing up in a culturally rich environment shaped by my Spanish and French background fueled this curiosity. Moving between Spain, France, Ireland, and now Canada, I’ve often felt like an outsider, always observing, never quite belonging. Yet, in this feeling of being in-between, I’ve found comfort in nature’s quiet presence: the calmness of trees, the endless sea, and the warmth of my family and friends, my true home.
"Between Lights and Shadows", this is where I exist, where I create, and where stories unfold.
Let’s connect and bring new worlds to life.
